Horses Reinforce Habits

Cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is one of the longest standing therapeutic interventions used today. It is based on understanding the “automatic thoughts” we tell ourselves that are generally negative and exaggerated. These automatic thoughts can be frequently and extremely damaging to our confidence, self-esteem and self-worth. And since they come from within - these automatic thoughts are often long-standing, habitual parts of our system.

There are specific techniques used in cognitive behavioral therapy that engage the mind, bring awareness to habitual negative thoughts, and allow for change.  Using art, music, writing, and mapping, CBT seeks to help the individual realize thought patterns, understand their origins, and find ways to create new and healthier patterns of thinking.

I used CBT techniques daily in my work with clients. They provide actionable ways to progress through therapy and can be positive reinforcers of individual success. Teenagers and adults benefit from the hands-on approach which allows them control over their successes while in therapy.

The approach is proven and I’m a big proponent of it’s efficacy with clients. Helping you help yourself is a common goal of treatment and CBT is one of the best ways to make that happen. Let’s talk.
